Description
A funeral sash used at services for a member of 2./K.G. 4 'General Wever' (Battle Wing 4), a Luftwaffe bomber wing during World War II. The unit was formed in May 1939 and operated the Dornier Do 17, Junkers Ju 88 and Heinkel He 111 medium bombers, with later service on the Heinkel He 177 heavy bomber. The wing was named after General Walther Wever, the prime pre-war proponent for a strategic bombing capability for the Luftwaffe, who was killed in an aircraft accident in 1936. The sash measures 54 x 5 in. with an additional 2.5 in. silver bullion fringe at one end. It is imprinted in black: '2./K.G.4 'General Wever' and bears an applied 4.5 in. dia. circular white batch with BeVo type embroidered mobile swastika. Very good.
