Description
(1894 – 1964) German general, regimental commander with the 1st Panzer Division during the Battle of France in 1940. He then served as a brigade commander with the 4th Panzer Division on the Eastern Front from June 1942. He later commanded the 709th Static Infantry Division, based in Normandy, which soon became trapped in the Cotentin Peninsula. On 23 June 1944, Schlieben was appointed commandant of 'Fortress Cherbourg'. Three days later, von Schlieben and over 800 other troops surrendered to Major General Manton S. Eddy. Scarce S.P., 3.5 x 5.5 in. b/w, a postcard photo showing him in the field in full uniform signed on verso adding rank, date of the award of his Knights Cross, and dated Apr. 28, 1958. Fine.
