Description
A lion head sabre for officers of the Hussars, 18th centurySlender, sharp single-edged blade (partly pitted) with fuller on each side, three grooves and upswept double-edged point, the base of the blade etched on both sides with symmetrical scrollwork, trelliswork and leaves as well as moon/sun with stars, on the back three lines with arrowheads. Brass knuckle-bow hilt decorated in relief with lion head grip cap and trophies on the quillons and knuckle bow, hilt with black leather cover (rubbed) and copper wire wrap. In a scabbard with black leather cover, wooden centre and brass fittings decorated in relief on both sides (cross ridges interspersed with reticulated areas and stars), two movable suspension rings. Slightly damaged in places, traces of age. Length 96.5 cm. Well-balanced utility weapon of high-quality craftsmanship.Condition: II
