Wurkun Kundal Figure - Aboriginal Indigenous Art- 19th Century Aboriginal Indigenous Art - Once ritualware for the Wurkun people of Nigeria, Africa. Made of wood. A tall slender carved wooden shrine idol embellished with encrusted patina, signs of ritual use."Kundul" figures are typically mounted on iron spikes, enabling the sculpture to be stuck in the ground for use as protection and in divination ceremonies. They were frequently washed with liquid clay, "fed" with offerings of millet beer or millet porridge and rubbed with oil which create the thick encrusted surface patina. The idol measures 12.25 inches tall. Item comes from the collection of Timothy Koock. Ships from Austin, Tx.
