Chaplin’s son had apparently been wounded fighting the British and this document is his father’s bill to the town of Ipswich for expenses incurred in retrieving and caring for his son: “…to attendance at Home 3.9 / for doctrin His Sone as a solder 5.4.0 / to a jorney & expence to bring him home 16.4.0…” Excellent.
