Description
Joseph Stalin
China, April 25, 1949
A Pro-Stalin Letter Written By a Group of Chinese College Students
Letter

A handwritten letter in Chinese addressed to Joseph Stalin from a school group in China. 1p, measuring 7.5" x 10", China, dated April 25, 1949. From a group of Chinese college students, who praise Stalin for his leadership during the Second World War. Accompanied by the original envelope. With flattened mail folds.

A rough translation of the letter reads in part:
"During the Second European War, the Nazi German invaders attacked the people of Europe, causing Europe to suffer unprecedented devastation?you were there to lead the heroic Red Army and the Soviet people to fight against the German invaders. The struggle finally defeated Western fascism?freeing them from the shackles of imperialism? You quickly ordered your Red Army to come down and liberate your good friends in China? There are already 250 million people here. Your people have been freed from exploitation, domination, and oppression. At the same time, you have given every oppressed nation and working class on earth the encouragement to fight?Great Marshal Stalin! You are the beacon of world peace and democracy, and our families firmly love you?"

China and the Soviet Union shared the longest land border in the world, and following the Second World War the two nations had a good relationship. Stalin helped elevate the Chinese Communist Party to power in Xinjiang in 1949, and the 1950s saw the growth of friendship and cooperation between the countries. However, the Cold War ultimately caused a cooling of the once positive relationship, due to differing interpretations and practical applications of Marxism?Leninism, as influenced by their respective geopolitics.
