[FRENCH AND INDIAN WAR]. SHIPPEN III, Edward (1703-1781). Autograph letter signed (“Edw. Shippen”) to his son, Col. Joseph Shippen, Lancaster, 2 March 1758. One-page, oblong 8vo (197 x 229 mm), old folds with splitting, spotting, few small losses. Edward Shippen III was a prominent merchant and one time mayor of Philadelphia. He was one of the founders of Princeton University and the American Philosophical Society. In his letter to his son, who at the time was fighting in the French and Indian War, warns to “take care of the Indians”, describing them as “cunning dogs”.
