1760 French & Indian War Payment to Doctor "Asaph Rice"
April 10, 1760-Dated French & Indian War Period, Manuscript Document Signed Twice by Doctor "Asaph Rice" at Berwick, (Maine), Choice Very Fine.
A rare, nicely handwritten in rich brown on clean watermarked laid period paper and attractive, Autographed Document Signed, "Asaph Rice", 1 page, measuring 7.5" x 9.5", Berwick, (Maine) dated 1759 and 1760 (for medical services rendered), Berwick, Maine. Asaph Rice was born at Hardwick, Mass., in 1733; was graduated at Harvard College in 1752, and was ordained Pastor of the Church in Westminster, Mass.. During the French and Indian War, Dr. Rice traveled with Eli Forbes to care for the Provincial Militia troops of Massachusetts. This authentic period Invoice and Receipt being his payment request for several visits and medicines used on a "Jedediah Gutteridge" of Colonel Preble's Regiment of Berwick, Maine.
Handsomely presented, with Docket on reverse noting receipt of his payment in full reading:
"Berwick - May 8th, 1760 - then rec'd of Harrison Gray Esqr. Province Treasurer by the hand of John Hill Esqr. forty three shillings & two pence in full of within Account - (Signed) Asaph Rice."
