Description
Pre-Columbian, Central America, El Salvador, Maya, Copador type, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. Pre-Columbian, Central America, El Salvador, Maya, Copador type, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery bowl decorated with black and red pigment atop a light orange ground. Within the basin is a procession of 5 stylized turkeys, each with a branch or stem held in its red-painted beak. The turkeys surround a circular panel within the center of the basin. Around the exterior are 8 figures, 2 sets of 2 pairs of figures facing each other as if in heated debate. Size: 8.375" L x 8.25" W x 3.125" H (21.3 cm x 21 cm x 7.9 cm)

Provenance: Private Reinsmoen collection, Clear Lake, Iowa, acquired through descent from Robert Anderson, acquired prior to 2000.

Minor abrasions, fading to pigment, and light earthen deposits, otherwise intact and excellent. Great surface smoothness, and nice preservation to motifs throughout.
