Description
Pre-Columbian, Central America, El Salvador, Maya, Copador type, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A hand-built pottery bowl of deep form with a planar base, sloped walls, and a thick rim. Highly burnished and decorated with red, orange, and black pigment, the bowl presents a pair of prone 'swimmers' along the bottom of the exterior, their lengthy bodies wearing red clothing and seemingly supporting the band of pseudo-glyphs above them. The basin interior features 3 pairs of large glyphs similar to those on the exterior that are enclosed within concentric brown and red rings. Size: 7.3" Diameter x 3" H (18.5 cm x 7.6 cm)

Large chip to exterior walls, with abrasions, small nicks, and light fading to pigment commensurate with age. Great preservation to iconography. Old inventory label beneath base.
