Description

NOT ELIGIBLE FOR IN-HOUSE SHIPPING. DESCRIPTION: A fine Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 8-day tall case clock made by Solomon Park (working 1791-1822 in Philadelphia). The form consisting of four ogee feet supporting a rectangular base with quarter columns. The waist with carved quarter columns, a paneled door with clipped corners, and a brass escutcheon. The hood with stop fluted columns flanking the dial and paneled sides. The top with three magnificent flame finials resting on carved balls and fluted plinths. The swans necks terminating in finely carved floral rosettes. The dial of typical form with the name “Solomon Park” painted on the front (now worn) and floral spandrels and painted moon-phase wheel. The clock opens to reveal a typical 8-day English movement with weights and pendulum. 1880s repair label is on the inside of the waist. Park originally began his work in Bucks County, Pennsylvania before moving to Front street in Philadelphia in the late 18th century. Examples of his clocks are in numerous museum and private collection. PROVENANCE: From the Edward F. Lafond Jr. Collection, Mechanicsburg, PA. MEASUREMENTS: 13-3/4" wide x 9-5/8" deep x 88-1/4" high. CONDITION: Professionally cleaned. Dial has losses due to age and use.
