Description
NOT ELIGIBLE FOR IN-HOUSE SHIPPING. DESCRIPTION: A walnut cased clock probably from Adams or York county, PA. Clock base with double inset panels flanked by applied reeded lozenges and resting on French bracket feet with a cut-out skirt board. The waist has chamfered corners terminating in lambs tongues. The central arched door flanked by applied vertical lozenges with reeding terminating in a small arch. The moonphase dial is beautifully executed and features classical corner urns. The bonnet features three applied lozenges with reeding that mirror the waist and the base. The top with three classical urns resting on round turned plinks and flanked by swans neck scrolls terminating in applied rhondels. PROVENANCE: From the Edward F. LaFond Jr. collection, Mechanicsburg, PA. Acquired by him from John Delaney of Massachusetts. Inside the clock is a business card for a Gettysburg battlefield guide dating from the 1930's. Writing on the card outlines a provenance that begins in the 1830's (probably the second generation of owners) and traces the movement of the clock within Adams county and then to Ohio (Ohio clock makers repair bill from 1897 within the clock case) then to Massachusetts where it was sold to Delaney and thence to LaFond. MEASUREMENTS: 19" wide x 10" deep x 85-1/2" high. CONDITION: The condition of this clock is remarkable. The 8-day movement is of good quality.
