Rare Pennsylvania Folk Art Tall Shelf Clock 1830 - 1835
Item Details
Description
NOT ELIGIBLE FOR IN-HOUSE SHIPPING. DESCRIPTION: A rare, possibly unique, Pennsylvania German folk art shelf or floor clock, possibly Berks County, PA. The form consists of a typical 1830-35 Empire clock case with faux mahogany panels, ebonized and gilded applied half spindle columns and ball feet. The dial and 8-day movement are German in origin and within proximate period to the case. What is striking about the clock is the size. More typically these clocks are found in New England as shelf clocks. This example is much larger and thus probably intended for the floor. Clock has wear consistent with age. PROVENANCE: The clock was sold by Merritts Antiques, Douglasville, PA, then to the Edward F. Lafond Jr. Collection, Mechanicsburg, PA. MEASUREMENTS: 19-1/4" wide x 10-3/4" deep x 79-3/4" high. CONDITION: Scratching and wear consistent with age and use.
