Description
President James Monroe signed land grant document dated March 19, 1818. Countersigned by Josiah Meigs. Land grant is for 160 acres of land in Illinois territory to Henry Oldolf ?late a private in Spencers Company of the Twenty-Ninth Regiment of Infantry.? Bold, dark signature of James Monroe as president framed with a contemporary tinted picture for a nice display. Printed partly on vellum.
Condition
Mounted document has been reinforced on verso to assist a parting fold. Ink is slightly faded but very readable. Some age staining to the vellum retaining some of the original red wax seal. For accuracy, a tiny bit of paper loss affects a part document measures w. 12.75",h. 9.1875"
