Description
A stunning and rare carved wooden Kore secret society mask in the form of the monkey (Ngon) which probably originates from the Koulikoro region at the centre of the Bamana country in Mali, West Africa. The mask has an encrusted surface, painted with mineral and organic pigments and has some small red abrus seeds as decoration. The mask measures 20 x 7 inches , 25.5 inches tall on its professional display stand which is included. The base measures 5.5 x 5.5 inches wide and deep. Provenance: Ex Leonard Kahan Gallery, New York, also Ex~ McConnell Collection, VA and CA , also a private New Jersey collection.
