Description
A Very rare and desirable old carved wooden mask with large open-work ears and a overall elongated and exaggerated style. The Boa from the DRC/Congo are known principally for their masks, believed to be used in war-related ceremonies, to enhance the warriors courage or to celebrate victories, though in the latter half of the 20th century they are typically made for entertainment or for the art trade. The mask measures 15 inches tall x 13.5 inches wide. A metal display stand can also be included. Provenance: The Leonard Kahan Gallery, New York City , 1980's.
