Description
A rare large carved wooden ceremonial mask with large almond shaped eyes, attached woven rope coiffure and a long woven grass netting as part of the costume worn by the dancer. Lwena arts are relatively rare compared to their neighbors the Chokwe. Luchazi or Lwena peoples, Angola, West Africa. The mask measures 12 x 10.5 inches, the netting hangs down 20 inches. A metal display stand can also be included for an additional $50.00. Provenance: Ex Leonard Kahan Gallery, also Ex Private NYC collection.
