HOOVER, J. Edgar (1895-1972). A group of 3 autographed items, incl. Persons in Hiding. SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Hoover.HOOVER, J. Edgar (1895-1972), First Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. 3 autographed items, including:Persons In Hiding. Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1938 (some wear to spine, some interior pages loose). FFEP signed ("J. Edgar Hoover") and inscribed "To Mary Pool, With all good wishes, 12 November 1940" (signature and inscription very good). -- Typed letter signed ("J. Edgar Hoover"), addressed to Clarence R. Pool. Washington, DC, 15 August 1939. 1 page, 7 x 9 1/4 in., on "Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Department of Justice, Washington, DC" letterhead, light folds. Mr. Hoover congratulates Mr. Pool on the birth of his son. -- 8 x 10 in. silver gelatin photograph showing Mrs. Pool's 2-year-old son, signed ("J. Edgar Hoover") and inscribed "To Gary Pool, With all good wishes from your friend, 8 May 1942" (light wear to ink inscription, otherwise good). Gary Pool's father was an FBI Special Agent. Together, 3 items autographed by J. Edgar Hoover. Provenance: Descended directly in the family of Mary Atwood Pool (1914-2009). Washington, DC, resident Mary Atwood Pool began collecting autographs of notable American historical figures at the age of 14, with each autograph acquired by her direct communication with the historical figure, their staff, family members, or attorneys.
