Abolitionist John Brown Collection of 3 Relics From the Donald P. Dow Collection of Americana
A collection of three relics from John Brown's execution on December 2, 1859, at Charles Town, Virginia. The items, recovered by Captain Richard Adams, include a .5" x .5" swatch of Brown's coat that he wore when captured at Harper's Ferry, pieces of which became tangled in the rope that hung him; several strands of the rope used in the hanging as well as a .5" piece of Brown's coffin. The collection is presented in a display with copies of the original notes of provenance.
