Roy Albert Demeo (1940-1983) was a member of the Gambino crime family, heading up a gang known as the "Murder Machine". His crew is believed to be responsible for approximately 200 murders, many committed by DeMeo himself. The group became notorious for disposing of bodies in a particularly grisly way, which came to be known as "the Gemini Method" and was meant to send a message to those who might try to oppose them. DeMeo would later be murdered in January 1983 by two members of his own crew after a hit had been put on him by Gambino boss Paul Castellano, who had found that DeMeo was too uncontrollable. According to Sammy 'The Bull' Gravano, Castellano wanted to have the whole DeMeo crew killed, believing that they had all turned into serial killers.
