Albumen CDV outdoor group portrait of 5 men and 4 women, attributed as the family of Myles Keogh. Pencil inscription to mount verso reads: "Jordanstown, 11 miles N of Belfast, Aug. 5th 65". Provenance: From an album from the family of Myles Keogh.
Myles Keogh (1840-1876) was a career soldier from Ireland. He began his military service in the army of the Papal States during the War of Italian Unification. He was recruited into the Union Army during the Civil War and served as a cavalry officer under General John Buford, with particular renown during the Gettysburg Campaign. After the war, he remained in the regular United States Army as commander of Troop I of the 7th US Cavalry under George Armstrong Custer. He was among the slain at the Battle of Little Bighorn in 1876.
