Two Albumen Photographs Related to Lincoln's Funeral Train
Two albumen photographs related to Abraham Lincoln. Both measuring 9.5" x 11.5", Baltimore and Harrisburg, n.d. Both images were produced by Bendann. Both images have edge toning, dampstaining, soiling, and foxing. Bumped and uneven edges and corners. Overall very good.
The first photograph shows Calvert Station in Baltimore, captioned "views on the Northern Central Railway." Lincoln's funeral train left from the Calvert Street Station as it made its way to Harrisburg. The second photograph is of the Engine House in Marysville, near Harrisburg, which served the Northern Central Railroad. Prior to its connection to Lincoln's funeral train, the Northern Central Railroad had been an important asset during the Civil War and was a primary target of Robert E. Lee's invasion of Pennsylvania in 1863.
After Lincoln's death, his body lay in state at the U.S. Capitol before traveling to Springfield. The funeral train left on April 21, 1865, traveling through 180 cities and seven states as it retraced Lincoln's victorious route to Washington in 1861.
