Type I Photograph From State Funeral of John F. Kennedy
A somber black and white photograph depicting President John F. Kennedy's flag-draped casket lying in the East Room at the White House. Measuring 8" x 9.75", dated November 23, 1963, Washington, D.C. Featuring the photographer's backstamp and unique identification number "8255-K" on verso. Lightly toned, else near fine. PSA encapsulated to the overall size of 9.75" x 13.25", receiving a designation of type I.
Early on November 23, the President's coffin was carried by six military pallbearers into the East Room, where he lay in repose for 24 hours before being transported to the Capitol to lie in state. Originally captured by White House photographer Abbie Rowe, this image can be viewed on the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum website as part of a series entitled State Funeral of President Kennedy: Lying in repose in the East Room of the White House.
Abbie Rowe (1905-1967) was an American photographer, best known for being an official White House photographer from 1941 to 1967, covering five successive administrations from Harry Truman to Lyndon Johnson.
