44 1/2 in., .73 caliber round barrel, the left side of the breech with 'P,' eagle's head, 'V' proof marks; flat lock plate with pointed tail marked '1808 and below the pan 'US' over a spread wing eagle and 'SPRINGFIELD,' the inside of the plate marked with a five-pointed star and indistinct initials inside and most screws and parts marked with an 'I'; walnut stock; iron furniture, the butt plate tang marked '1808' and the trigger guard with pointed forward finial, with sling swivels and short steel rammer with button head and plain end.

There were 5,870 Springfield Model 1795 muskets delivered into military stores in 1808 (Peter A. Schmidt, U.S. Military Flintlock Muskets and Their Bayonets, The Early Years 1790-1815, (Woonsocket, R.I.; Andrew Mowbray Publishers, 2006), p. 75).

Barrel has overall light brown mottling and pitting at the vent; lock is mostly bright with scattered light pitting, lock functions properly; stock has dings, dents, and blemishes, a crack in front of the side plate and a small loss at the front end of the lock mortice, upper rear area of the lock mortice has been broken away and reattached with small nails; furniture has light brown mottling and scattered pitting, rammer is too short.
