Springfield Model 1795 Type IV Musket with State of New York Markings,
Springfield, Massachusetts, c. 1814.
44 1/2 in., .71 caliber round barrel the left side of the breech marked 'P' eagle head 'V' over 'S.N.Y.,' the top marked 'US' and the bayonet lug marked 'M'; flat lock plate with pointed tail marked '1814' and 'US' over a spread wing eagle over 'SRINGFIELD' below the integrally forged pan, the inside of the plate marked 'AK'; walnut stock marked 'US' on the left side behind the side plate, and below the trigger guard the stamped initials 'A[-],' and 'C' within an oval cartouche, the butt with cheek rest on the left side; iron furniture of proper form, the butt plate tang marked '1814'; with sling swivels and steel rammer marked 'N' below the button head and with a threaded end.

The State of New York markings indicate that this musket was part of the distribution of arms to states under the Militia Act of 1808, likely in the 1820s or 1830s (Peter A. Schmidt, U.S. Military Flintlock Muskets and Their Bayonets, The Later Years 1816 Through the Civil War , (Woonsocket, R.I.; Andrew Mowbray Publishers, 2007), pp. 254-55).

Barrel is mostly bright with light brown mottling and has minor pitting at the vent area; lock is mostly bright with light brown mottling and minor pitting around the vent area and functions properly; stock has old surface, minor dings, dents, and blemishes; furniture is mostly bright with light brown mottling, butt plate has minor pitting.
