Description
RICHARD RUGG I, ATTRIBUTED, ENGLISH GEORGIAN STERLING SILVER SALVER, having a round well with an 18-sided rim having gadroon and shell border, center with ornate engraved "JB" initials featuring foliate decoration, raised on three claw-and-ball feet. Base impressed with "R R" maker's mark probably for Richard Rugg I and three hallmarks of a "P" date mark for 1770, a lion passant for sterling fineness, and a crown leopard's head city mark for London. Total weight: 16.390 ozt. Circa 1770. 9" DOA, 1 1/4" H.
Catalogue Note: This mark is recorded as "Unregistered" by Grimwade, but may have been in the missing largeworkers' register for 1758-1773. This mark is larger in size than Rugg's mark with a pellet. Note that the date range fits between the ranges of the two marks registered in the name(s) of Richard Rugg.

Condition
Very good overall condition with some wear, surface scratches, and nicks, a few minute dents to well, a small area of surface hairlines and flaking along top at rim, possible solder repair at top terminal of one foot.
