A View of the Town and Castle of St. Augustine, and the English Camp before it June 20, 1740 by Thomas Silver, from the November 1740 issue of GentlemanÕs Magazine, the engraving of the Siege of St. Augustine, by Thomas Silver, depicts General James OglethorpeÕs troops and landmarks such as the castle, Col. Vander DusenÕs camp, and breakers along the coast, captions below the image describe the historic event. Oglethorpe, founder of the Georgia Colony, was unsuccessful in his siege of the Spanish fort. He was finally forced to retreat. This engraving was the first major sketch included in the GentlemanÕs Magazine. This engraving is matted and framed. Frame size: 17 1/4 in. x 12 1/4 in.Measurements: Height: by sight 11 3/4 in. x Width: 6 3/4 in.

Overall good condition, paper lightly toned, minor foxing, some faint creases, not viewed out of frame.
