A BP-5 Spy Radio Transceiver, Polish, circa 1945, the transceiver in black metal case with hinged lid, opening to control panel, amp meter, and Morse key, together with mains power unit in separate metal case, both concealed with wooden suitcase with leather carrying strap, transceiver 4 1/2in x 11in x 8in (11.5cm x 28cm x 20cm) suitcase 5 1/2in x 24 1/2in x 12in (14cm x 61cm x 30.5cm) Footnotes: Provenance: The John Elgar-Whinney collection of clandestine radios and cipher machines. The BP-5 was a valve-based spy radio transceiver, developed during WWII by Tadeusz Heftman of the Polish Military Wireless Unit in Stanmore. It was introduced in 1944 and was intended for use by Agents and Resistance Organisations in Europe. It was heavily used in the Pacific War Theatre, where the AM (voice) option was of great benefit to reconnaissance and surveillance patrol missions.
