This beautifully marbleized red art deco radio features a yellow circular dial bezel, hexagonal knobs, and handle. The rows of ribs that stretch around the radio are a very unique feature. This model was produced in a variety of unusual and attractive colors. They were made of Bakelite Cast Resinoid by Galvin Manufacturing Corporation for Motorola.
The condition of this radio is consistent with age and wear, especially noticeable on the backplate. The yellow color has darkened over time. It has not been tested for working order. The dimensions (height x length x depth) are 5 3/4 in x 9 5/8 in x 5 1/8 in; 14.6 cm x 24.4 cm x 13 cm.
Motorola, Inc. (1947)
Founded by Paul V. Galvin in 1928, the Galvin Manufacturing Corporation officially changed its name to Motorola, Inc. in 1947 after the success of a Motorola branded car radio. The first product that the company made was battery-eliminators for radios. Motorola still operates today as a leader in technology producing computers, mobile phones, networking systems, and wireless networks among others.
