An Abwehr S90/40 Spy Radio Transmitter, German, circa 1940, comprising receiver, transmitter, and power units, in fitted black leather case with carrying strap, with various leads, Morse key, and earphones, case 6 1/2in x 20 1/2in x 14in (16.5cm x 52cm x 35.5cm) Footnotes: Provenance: The John Elgar-Whinney collection of clandestine radios and cipher machines. The S-90/40 was a clandestine 40 Watt short-wave radio transmitter, developed around 1939 at OKW-Aussenstelle Berlin-Stahnsdorf for use during at the central control stations of the German Intelligence Service, the Abwehr, and its foreign counterparts. From 1942 onwards, the transmitter was produced by OKW Aussenstelle Wurzen . power supply, headphones and Junkers key, lacking aerial wire.
