Description
Ancient Near East, Holyland, Early Bronze Age II, ca. 2900 to 2650 BCE; Magna Graecia, Apulia, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. An attractive pair of ancient pottery vessels: a Holyland handled jar and an Apulian lekythos. Larger of the 2, the jar presents a bulbous body that tapers to a slender neck and a pinched spout, all flanked by 2 vertical loop handles. Alternatively, the lekythos sits upon a discoid foot displaying a round, vertically ribbed body, a tall neck, and a flared rim. An elegant ribbon-form handle arches up from the neck connecting it to the vessel's shoulder. Size of larger (jar): 4" Diameter x 4.3" H (10.2 cm x 10.9 cm)
