Description
**Originally Listed At $400**
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A wheel-thrown redware pottery jar of a carinated form with a tapered neck, a flared rim, and a pair of perforated parabolic handles, all atop a narrow base. The orange-red color is a hallmark of fine Roman pottery that has been adored for centuries. Jars like this example were perhaps utilitarian in function, and the narrow base suggests it was balanced within a narrow, circular housing. Note the lustrous golden specks decorating the exterior due to mica found in the clay body. Size: 6" Diameter x 4.625" H (15.2 cm x 11.7 cm)
Provenance: East Coast collection, New York Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
