Magna Graecia, South Italic Colonies, Apulia, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. A wheel-thrown pottery skyphos (drinking cup) of a miniature form with a squat foot, a wide body with a shallow basin, and a pair of parabolic handles protruding from the sides. The black-glazed vessel is decorated with fugitive orange pigment that forms parallel horizontal stripes beneath a zigzagging register. Size: 4.625" W x 1.2" H (11.7 cm x 3 cm).

Condition
Minor nicks to rim, handles, and foot, with a couple of stable hairline fissures near handles that are a result of aging and not repair, and fading to areas of fugitive pigment, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits and nice traces of original fugitive pigment throughout.
