Documentation dated September 20th, 1791 that Major Benjamin Davenport, a merchant from Hartford, CT, was indebted to Abijah Miller of Glassenburg for 20 pounds to be paid on the condition that Asael and Elisha Taylor of South Hadley, NH shall not prosecute their writ against said Abijah Miller.
The document is signed at the conclusion by Thomas Seymour, a Colonel during the Revolution and Head of the Committee of the Pay Table.
The document measures 8 x 7.5".
Fine condition overall with only subtle signs of expected age.
Thomas Seymour was a lieutenant colonel in the militia from Hartford, Connecticut. Seymour was a graduate of Yale College, Class of 1755, and he sent his sons to New Haven as well. A successful lawyer, her served for twenty years as representative to the General Assembly at Hartford, being speaker five times. He succeeded his father as King’s Attorney for the Hartford Colony and, following the Revolution, he was United States Attorney. As lieutenant-colonel, he marched in the summer of 1776 in command of three regiments of the First Connecticut Cavalry.
He was elected the first mayor of Hartford in 1784.
