Arkansas,1902-1981
Titled "Soap Makin' Time," depicts a woman dressed in purple mixing a vat over an open fire while an older gentleman sits with a churn in front of a modest home. Ward's works often depict pioneer life and feature the characters Miranda and Hezzakaiah. Her primitive, and sometimes humorous, works have since given her the affectionate title of "Grandma Moses of the Ozarks."
Oil on board,Board 18" x 24".Frame 20 1/4" x 26 1/4"
Signed "E. Ward" lower right corner, titled "Soap Makin' Time" along bottom left edge.
