1859 Declaration Independence Plaque by Samuel H. Black
(Declaration of Independence) 1859-Dated Embossed Copper Metal Plaque, by Samuel H. Black, Period Wood Framed, Extremely Fine.
Classic original Copper Metal Plaque displaying the central image of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence. Copper Plaque measures about 7" x 7.75" (by sight), housed in the original black painted oak frame, measuring fully about 13" x 13.75" which has some minor age distressing and wear, attesting to its originality. This historic Plaque is made from solid Copper and is dated at the bottom:
"Entered According To The Act Of Congress, in the year 1859 by S.H. Black In The Clerk's Office of The District Court For The Southern District of New York." At center is a round Seal bearing an inset vignette impression of "The Congress on July 4th, 1776."
Surrounding it is written, in raised embossed print, is the text and signatures of the "Declaration" itself. Beneath are the raised signatures of each of its Signer's in facsimile, with a highly decorative surround and raised border design. This Plaque was manufactured at about the same time as Samuel Black's larger size "National Medallion" Plaque. Surrounding an 86 mm reproduction of the obverse of C. C. Wright's "Declaration of Independence" medal, elegantly engraved after the famous John Trumbull Painting of the occasion. An original 1859 created historic display piece with the embossed text of the entire Declaration of Independence and engraved script signatures of each of the Signers. Unusual in this larger size wooden frame and ready for display.
