North America, United States, Civil War Era, ca. 1861 to 1865 CE. A collection of 3 large solid iron shot munitions for smoothbore guns, used during the American Civil War. Each is a different diameter and weight, the heaviest is 4.2 lb. or 1905 grams- and all three may have been part of cannister or grapeshot clusters. These would have rained down devastation on land and at sea during one of the bloodiest wars fought in United States history. Size (largest): 3" Diameter (7.6 cm); weight: 1905 grams; (mid-sized): 2.8" Diameter (7.1 cm); weight: 1360.78 grams; (smallest): 2.5" Diameter (6.4 cm): weight: 907.18 grams
