Description
(Edgefield, South Carolina, b. circa 1800, d. after 1873) attributed to Dave Drake, made at Lewis Miles Stoneware Manufactory, Horse Creek Valley, Edgefield District, circa 1860, olive green alkaline glaze, slightly tilted ovoid form, "LM" script angled downward on left front shoulder of jar, incised "X" and four dots just below tooled mark at neck of jar, applied lug handles below flat neck and rounded rim of jar, 13-3/4 in tall, 38 in. circumference,

glaze voids and anomalies as made, minor surface abrasions to glaze exterior with some glaze frits, 1/2 in. chip to glaze at handle, 1/4 in. glaze chip to interior rim, two 2-1/2 in. firing hairlines to interior body as made, 3 in. firing hairline down from rim likely as made, other minor firing hairlines to glaze at rim likely as made, rim wear with associated glaze frits, minor firing hairlines at base edge as made, base edge wear with some minor chipping to clay body, some likely as made, overall good condition consistent with age and use
