Edgefield South Carolina Circa 1850's two gallon jug. This is a outstanding jug with a rich oatmeal glaze that encases the entire jug with outstanding iron burst. Strong Dave Drake (Dave the Slave) attribution, the master of southern pottery. His strong handle with thumb impression at lower terminal with the correct spacing at the top of the handle to lip. ribbed shoulder tooling and two / / on the mid section of shoulder and base of spout. A scarce jewel of Daves masterpieces from this time period. Condition - Has chip restoration around the mid section of mouth all the way around, very nice job. The handle has a crazing line in the mid section, Not a Hairline and is only in the glaze. No other chips, no hairlines, or other repairs.
