[John Quincy Adams 1767-1848] Secretarial letter, signed by Adams. 6th president of the United States. ALS dated August 10,1824, to William Tudor Esquire, Consul of the United States at Lima, from John Quincy Adams while he was serving as the Secretary of State (1817-1825.) Written on one leaf. William Tudor Esquire/Consul of the United States/at Lima and for the ports of Peru./ Department of State/ Washington 10th August 1824/Sir,/ The President and with the advice and consent of the Senate, having appointed you Consul of the United States at Lima and the port of Peru. I have the honour of endorsing herewith your commissions, accompanied with printed Circular Instructions, and a blank Consular Board, which last you will execute on your part, and forward to the United States to be filled up, taking are to have a Certificate from the District Attorney of the State in which the Sureties reside, subjoined to the Bond that they are in his opinion sufficient before it is transmitted to this office. /I am very Respectfully, Sir,/ your obedt. servt/ John Quincy Adams.
