Jacqueline Kennedy Typed Letter Signed to Old Family Friend, Dave Powers

1p TLS, measuring 5.75" x 7.75", New York, dated May 5, 1977. First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, widow of John F. Kennedy, addressed to her friend Dave Powers. Typed on her personal blue stationery, "Thanks so much for sending me the clippings and, of course, the nicest one of all is you and me together! It was wonderful to see you and I am glad everything went so well." Jackie has signed the letter "much love Jackie" and written in her own hand the salutation "Dear Dave" and conclusion "You were the star!"

After her husband's death and the death of her second husband Aristotle Onassis, Jackie Kennedy Onassis split her time between New York, Martha's Vineyard, and Hyannis Port in Massachusetts. She resigned from Viking Press in 1977 and was hired by Doubleday, where she worked as an associate editor. David Powers (1912-1998) was Special Assistant and assistant Appointments Secretary to President Kennedy. After John F. Kennedy's assassination, Powers served as the curator of the John. F. Kennedy Library and Museum, a position he held from 1964-1994.

The letter is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from Shafran Collectibles, Inc. Letter has a flattened mail fold. Minor wear to the envelope, with a neon orange sticker on the front lower-left corner. From the collection of Ron Hoskins, assassinologist.
