Jackie Kennedy ALS to Friend Just One Year Prior to Presidential Campaign
2pp autographed letter signed, measuring 6.25" x 7", Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, no date [envelope postmarked September 11, 1959]. Addressed to Betty, or Mrs. Andrew K Henry, and signed "Affec. Jackie." Written just prior to John F. Kennedy privately announcing to prominent Democrats that he would be campaigning for the 1960 presidential election. Hyannis Port, a small village in Barnstable, Massachusetts, was the home base for the Kennedy compound and other Kennedy residences.
The letter in full:
"Dear Betty - It was such a pleasant surprise hearing from you. I was away & didn't get your postcard till the party was all over. I was very sad to have missed it. But I saw Marian her last day here & she said you were prettier than ever with 'short curly hair, a marvelous figure & 4 beautiful children! How nice. I'll call Marian when I'm in Boston this winter. I forget if she said you live there in the winter, but if so we can all meet, it would be marvelous after so long. Otherwise - till next summer - we're always here & I hope to find you again in Bass River. -Affec. Jackie" Accompanied by the original envelope, hand addressed and also marked "Please Forward" at the lower left corner. Another hand has written in pencil two tables and numbers on verso. The letter has a mail fold and is boldly signed. Usual wear and soiling to the envelope.
