Description
Ancient Pre Columbian Tairona Jug with Bat Handles c.1000-1550 AD. Size 8 inches high. Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Columbia, Tairona. A Vessel with a bulbous body and wide flared neck, finished in black-typical for most Tairona wares. Zoomorphic appliques of bats were placed on both sides at the shoulder of the neck and shoulder of the vessels. The body of the vessel sits on top an attached pedistal base. Black ware vessels of this style were primarily used for ceremoinial and ritual pirposes. Provenance: Private Collection of S.C Enrique Sanchez, Archeologist.
