Description
Ancient Pre Columbian Chavin Polychrome Jug c.1200-200 BC. Size 5 5/8 inches high. Northern Highlands, Chavin. A hand molded jug with wide flared spout with a thick ribbon handle attached to the upper body. The upper body is decorated with what appears to be crocodile or serpents and birds in hues of red over an orange background outlined by black. Faint lines in cream outlined the entire decoration. The handles has stripes of cream and red. Provenance: Provenance: well-excuted large, round bottomed bottle of an egg-shaped form with a wide neck and applied, twin loop handleslinking the neck and body. The body is painted with a cream slip and is adorned with two monkey faces on the spout. The upper part of the vessel is decorated with brown vertical sets of lines. The vessel sits on an applied base. Provenance: Provenance: Private Collection of Gustavo Zambrano Meza.
