Description
JOHN D. HEATWOLE, ROCKINGHAM CO., SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA DECORATED STONEWARE JAR, salt-glazed, brushed cobalt "2" gallon capacity below one handle, ovoid form with pronounced neck ring, high, slightly flaring neck, plain rim, and lightly grooved, arched handles, straight cut-off lines under base. Brushed cobalt triple-bloom floral decoration on one side and bold "1856" above a large upright feather on other side. Reserve. John D. Heatwole (1826-1907), Dry River Pottery (active circa 1850-1890), Rockingham Co., VA. Dated 1856. 12 3/4" H, 7" D rim.

Condition
3 1/2" hairline off rim adjacent to one handle, rim with two shallow exterior chips, flakes/roughness to neck ring and one handle.
