Description
STAMPED "W. H. LEHEW & CO. / STRASBURG, VA" SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA DECORATED AND INCISED STONEWARE JAR, salt-glazed, approximately 1/2 gallon capacity, cylindrical form with incised shoulder ring, beaded collar, and thin flat-top rim. Incised with a flag and "Charles ??? / Winchester / Va" in script on back. Brushed cobalt dropped-feather decoration repeated three times around the ring. The pottery of William H. Lehew (b.c. 1825-aft. 1891). Circa 1860-1880. 7 1/2" H, 5 1/4" D rim.
