Description
EMANUEL SUTER, ROCKINGHAM CO., SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA DECORATED STONEWARE JUG, salt-glazed, "2" gallon capacity mark, semi-ovoid form with incised mouth ring, strap handle, and trimmed foot. Brushed cobalt upright double bloom floral decoration below stamp with additional cobalt at handle terminals. Emanuel Suter (1833-1902), New Erection Pottery (1866-1890), west of Harrisonburg, VA. 1866-1880. 13 1/4" HOA.
Undamaged except for several tiny surface spalls, probably as made, two short scuffs to front. Surface possibly covered with a shellac or varnish.
