Description
"The Dressing of Venus" & "Roman Sculpture". Watercolors. Estate stamped. One framed. One matted & unframed. 14 3/4" x 13 1/2"; 10" x 8". Two sepia works by Herbert from a 2001 Bert Gallery exhibition Classical Inspirations. The exhibition explored the elegant simplicity of clasical forms that has drawn generations of artists to seek inspiration from their Greek & Roman predecessors. Whether it be tragedy or torrid affairs of the heart that wind through the ancients' myths, these works are good examples of the subject matter that brought artists back to the classics.
