August 8, 1885-Dated, Printed Broadside of "Memorial Services" for President and Civil War General U.S. Grant, for citizens of "Salinas City" (California), Fine.
Printed Broadside announcement invitation to the people of "Salinas City" (California). Salinas is a city in California and the county seat of Monterey County. This meant for posting, measures about 8.5 x 4-7/8" and lists the order of exercises for a Memorial Service to be held in honor of the former, now-deceased President. At the bottom is a further notice for businesses to "close shop" from 9 am until 1 pm in order not to detract people from the service. With black "Mourning" borders on all sides. There is a very small posting hole at top, the blank reverse has some archival tape reinforcements along each of the folds. A very interesting and most assuredly rare "Salinas City" (California) Memorial Broadside.
Salinas is a city in California and the county seat of Monterey County. Salinas is the most populous city in Monterey County. Salinas is an urban area located in the Monterey Bay Area, just south of the San Francisco Bay Area and 10 miles southeast of the mouth of the Salinas River.
