Description
Rare World War I U.S. Army Air Service uniform. Included is: official heavy green wool M1917 tunic, five buttons at front with four pockets with button-down flaps, 'U.S.' and Aviator's screw-on collar discs shoulder insignia comprised of a white embroidered propeller abeneth the individually-sewn embroidered numbers ' 3 4 5'. A few scattered moth holes except beneath bottom button with is heavily mothed; matching wool trousers with lace-up ankles, and reinforced inner thighs; and a green wool shirt with three-button front, collared and long-sleeved, the right sleeve embroidered with the same white propeller and individual numbers '3 4 5' numbers. Moth hole to left shoulder and bottom front. Three pieces. We have been unable to identify any squadron or other aviation unit assigned the number '345', but the shirt was ink-identified many years later: 'J. BORMANN'. Overall very good.
